Nokia to Help Sprint Nextel with Texas WiMAX Deployment

Finnish wireless equipment giant, Nokia, best known for its mobile handset products, has agreed to assist Sprint Nextel with the deployment of a next-generation wireless broadband network in the U.S. state of Texas.

Nokia will deploy WiMAX infrastructure in Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio, and aims to complete the project within the first half of 2008. Financial details of the agreement between Sprint and Nokia were not released.

Once launched the WiMAX network will allow Sprint to offer lightning-fast mobile broadband service to customers within the covered areas, allowing for enhanced multimedia services, interactive gaming, videoconferencing, and other advanced wireless features.
