Online VoIP provider, Skype, announced earlier this week that its free internet telephony service would soon be fully integrated with Paypal, making the Skype a more practical option for business-level users.
Speaking at a communications conference in San Jose, California, Skype CEO and co-founder, Niklas Zennstrom revealed that users would soon be able to link their Skype and Paypal accounts, sending money to and from people on their contacts list at the click of a button. Zennstrom did not give an exact launch date for the feature, but said it would be made available in about a month.
Send Money, as the new feature is called, will likely tie in well with another of the company’s recently launched beta services, Skype Prime, which lets users to advertise and sell their services, such as advice or answers, within the Skype community.
IDC research analyst, Will Stofega, says he’s not surprised by the new development, and expects continued three-way integration between Skype, Paypal, and parent company, eBay in the future. The tie-up between Paypal and Skype could be the “first step toward voice-based trading on eBay,” according to Stofega.
