America’s third largest cell phone carrier, Sprint Nextel, is aiming to better promote its location-based wireless solutions, by bundling them with select high-end data plans.
A host of the company’s GPS-enabled navigation services will be available at no extra charge with the Power Vision Ultimate and Business Packs, which are currently offered at $25 per month. Sprint is also launching a special new $20/month Navigation Pack, which comes with unlimited web browsing, email access, and multimedia services, as well as the full range of GPS solutions.
Sprint’s navigation services are powered by TeleNav Inc., and come with voice-guided, turn-by-turn driving directions, traffic alerts, 3D maps, local search, and a feature to locate the cheapest nearby gas station. Occasional users may order the entire package on an a la carte basis, at a cost of $3 per day.
“What we’re doing is making navigation that much more accessible to our users,” explained Sprint Nextel product manager, Charnsin Tulyasathien. “The key next step is educating the consumer that this mobile device that they use for voice can also be used for navigation.”
