BlackBerry-maker, Research In Motion, plans to roll-out a new version of its wireless email software for Windows Mobile 6.0 devices, the company’s CEO revealed in a recent interview.

RIM’s new software will be available on “a broad array of devices” based on Microsoft’s mobile OS, according to Chief Executive, Jim Balsillie, and should be offered by a number of North American carriers in the second half of this year.

“We’re working very closely with AT&T, as an example,” Balsillie explained, noting that “there’ll be other carriers that are highly supportive of this.”

The BlackBerry software will appear as an icon within Windows, and bring up the BlackBerry interface when clicked. Users will be able to quickly toggle between the Windows Mobile and BlackBerry interfaces whenever the software is running.

Bringing BlackBerry services to Windows devices is RIM’s way of appealing to a broader market of enterprise users, and increasing its competitive advantage over Microsoft’s wireless email solution.
