Swedish mobile equipment giant, Ericsson AB, has won a “multi-million Euro” contract to manage supply and distribution of spare parts for Vodafone’s wireless operations in Germany, Spain, and Portugal.

“This is to date one of the biggest contracts for multi-vendor spare parts management,” Ericsson explained in a statement, noting that “the initiative forms part of Vodafone’s cost reduction strategy as each Vodafone operating company currently runs its own spare parts operation.”

The deal covers logistics, warehousing, repair, and replacement of spare parts for 2G and 3G networks. Vodafone has the option to extend the deal to cover additional regional divisions over the course of the agreement.
