The good news for broadband equipment vendors is getting better by the month, as a new report from iSuppli Corp. predicts broadband equipment factory revenue to reach $15.1 billion worldwide in 2011, up from $11.2 billion in 2006.

“The ADSL market is headed for a major inflection point when existing subscribers begin to upgrade to higher-speed services,” explained iSuppli’s principal analyst, Steve Rago. “This has happened in Japan already, as many service providers have migrated to fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technology, which offers consumers a 15 times increase in bandwidth compared to ADSL.”

France Telecom’s plans to deploy its own FTTH network in France, along with numerous other operators around the world evaluating fiber-based technology, will contribute to the surge in broadband equipment revenue, Rago says.

The iSuppli report also predicts continued growth in overall broadband penetration, which exceeded 50% in the U.S. this year, and should do the same in Europe in 2008.
