6:00 am on April 9, 2007 | Category: Wireless Technology, Wireless, Cellular
The prevalence of HSDPA, an advanced 3G cellular data technology, is rapidly increasing around the world, according to the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA). A total of 100 HSDPA networks have been made commercially available in 54 countries, including several emerging markets in Asia and Africa.
The GSA’s report determined that almost 40% of these networks now offer peak download speeds of 3.6 Mbps, while a small but growing number have upgraded to maximum downstream bandwidth of 7.2 or even 14.4 Mbps.
The number of mobile devices supporting HSDPA is also surging, the GSA reports, estimating that over 220 products have been launched for the standard, 160 of them in the past six months alone.
