South Africa’s incumbent landline phone carrier, Telekom SA, has placed an order for Alvarion’s BreezeMAX WiMAX platform, as part of an ongoing effort to expand wireless broadband networks on a nationwide level.
The first South African WiMAX roll-outs are already taking place in coastal regions of the country, and in the densely populated inland province of Gauteng.
“As the key player in South Africa, we have chosen Alvarion and its WiMAX Certified BreezeMAX platform to ensure high quality broadband services to our customers,” commented Telekom SA’s Executive Officer for Broadband Technology, Alphonzo Samuels.
Since its launch in mid-2004, the BreezeMAX platform has been used in over 300 wireless broadband installations worldwide, making it one of the most popular WiMAX systems to date.
