America Still Leading Broadband Country, But Lags in Subscriber Growth
6:15 am on May 18, 2007 | Category: Internet, Telecom Services
With a total of just over 58 million high-speed internet subscribers, the United States remains the country with the world’s most broadband users, according to a recent OECD report.
The U.S. is ranked a distant fifteenth, however, when it comes to broadband connections as a percentage of the population, and has fallen behind most Western European countries in terms of subscriber growth. Denmark managed to hold on to its title of highest broadband penetration rate, at 31.9 connections per hundred residents, while Holland, Iceland, Korea, Switzerland, Finland, Norway, and Sweden rounded out the top eight.
America now accounts for only 29% of the broadband connections in OECD (developed) countries, compared to 30% in June 2006.
