U.S. telecom giant, AT&T has extended its resale partnership with WildBlue Communications, offering satellite internet access to the nine states formerly served by BellSouth Corp.

AT&T, which began reselling WildBlue’s services in May 2006, now offers residential satellite broadband to customers throughout its 22-state service area. Although not usually necessary in cities, satellite internet access has become very popular in remote and rural areas where DSL services are unavailable.

“Since we began offering high speed Internet service, our goal has been to make the benefits of broadband available to every home and business in our service footprint,” commented Rick Welday, the CMO of AT&T’s Consumer division. “From traditional wireline broadband to satellite-broadband service, our focus continues to be on widescale deployment and availability in both rural and suburban communities alike, where consumers are eager for broadband access.”

    2. I like reading foreign news sources because I learn interesting things. I had no idea that India has satellite internet, I was relieved when i read the part that says rural areas, I was confused for a second.

    3. ATT from Wild Blue is horrible. I was scammed when I was purchasing WildBlue, they somehow gave me ATT, I didn’t want ATT but have been paying $80 per month for 14 months. In the agreement it says I have 20mb personal webspace, NOT TRUE!!! I have to use yahoo Geocities a free webspace available to anyone. That was not what I wanted. To get the webspace I am paying for it will cost me $300-$500 because I have to drop ATT & go back to Wildblue, the company I thought I was with from the start. What a SCAM…beware when doing business with these folks.
