BT to Offer VoIP Calling Feature for Sony PSP
2:57 am on May 24, 2007 | Category: VoIP, Mobile Devices, Wi-Fi
UK telephone incumbent, BT, has worked out a deal with Sony to offer video-based VoIP communications on the PSP gaming console.
“The PSP is an excellent device for both gaming and communications, because of its high quality screen and audio capabilities,” commented BT’s chief executive of mobility and convergence, Steve Andrews.
PSP users will be able to download a special BT ’softphone’ onto their consoles, and make wireless voice calls to landlines, PCs, and mobile phones, whenever they are within range of a Wi-Fi hotspot. Subscribers will be able to use the service over a home or office wireless network, free hotspot, or BT Openzone wireless access point.
