Consumers Show Blind Faith in Apple iPhone
6:05 am on May 29, 2007 | Category: Cell Phones, Mobile Devices
The Apple iPhone has yet to be seen of used by customers, but a great reputation has preceded it, according to a recent study by Strategy Analytics.
90% of U.S. mobile phone users believe that the forthcoming iPhone will be better than the device they currently own, and 40% rate it as “much better†across the key function categories – music, web browsing, voicemail, and phone call management.
Despite consumers’ virtually uncompromising faith in the iPhone, however, the majority balk at its US$500 starting price, and plan to wait for AT&T Wireless to lower the price before buying.

Sure those “90% of U.S. mobile phone users” may not have held an actual iPhone in their hands, but they’ve seen very detailed demonstrations of how the iPhone works thanks to Steve Job’s keynote and endless commentary in the press.
“Blind faith”? rubbish – it doesn’t take much to show in rock solid terms how lacking the vast majority of phones in current use are compared to Apple’s masterpiece of user-friendliness.
The majority may balk at the price but that still leaves an awfully large percentage of users planning to buy one. 50% of iPod users plan to do so – with 100 million iPods out there that alone represents a staggering number.
One can see why the cellular phone industry is worried.

I think the main thing is that nearly every other tech company overpromises, here’s Microsoft over-the-top description of a WATCH … yes, a watch … “â€Smart Watches for MSN Direct are a fun new way to receive the information you care about, delivered conveniently to your wrist,â€
I’m not even sure a 2-year thinks a watch can be “fun.â€
So, people are a little jaded but the reality is that in the Steve Jobs era, their products pretty delivers what he says and if he demos it onstage, you can be sure it works like that with no slight of hand and Apple is not know for … oh, that feature isn’t quite working so we pulled it … just look AppleTV. Now, it’s NOT everything everybody wants but it’s EXACTLY as Apple promised – even the reviews that say there’s not enough content or they want more features points out it is by far the easiest setup for streaming from computer to the TV … so, the iPhone will deliver exactly what Steve demoed and maybe a few exra surprises, It’s hard for people to believe in the era of “this will change your life forever†and it’s for detergent but in this aspect, Apple is again different from the rest.
