Rogers Wireless Warns TDMA Cell Phone Users to Make GSM Switch

Nearly 200,000 of Canada’s remaining analogue cell phone users have already made the switch to GSM services since January 10, when the country’s leading mobile carrier, Rogers Wireless, announced that it would shut down TDMA services at the end of May.
Each TDMA customer is being given a free GSM digital handset, and will be able to keep their existing phone number despite the switch in mobile technologies.
“The program has been tremendously successful,” commented Rogers Wireless’ Chief Marketing Officer, John Boynton. “The majority of our customers have chosen to transition to our more advanced GSM service, and are now enjoying the benefits of being on Canada’s most reliable network with the fewest dropped calls.”
The few remaining analogue hold-outs are being reminded of the pending change via mail, SMS messages, and call redirects, warning them to take advantage of the free upgrade before Rogers’ TDMA network is switched off on May 31.
