Verizon Wireless Wins Exclusive Deal to Offer ESPN Mobile Content

America’s second largest wireless carrier, Verizon Wireless, announced an exclusive multi-year deal with the ESPN sports network yesterday, that will bring video highlights, score updates, and other sports-related content to mobile phones.
This will make Verizon the first carrier to offer a full range of ESPN content since the Disney-owned sports network shut down its own MVNO division late last year. ESPN said at the time that it was simply switching strategies, and hoped to continue offering its content to cell phone users through partnerships with Tier-1 wireless carriers.
Verizon will offer ESPN content as a free bonus for customers that spend more than $15/month on its existing V CAST mobile video services. By doing this, the carrier hopes to benefit from ESPN brand association, while improving the loyalty of existing customers, particularly in the young adult male demographic.
