The web’s #2 search engine, Yahoo, has extended the beta launch of its mobile local search solution, oneSearch, to Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK, in an attempt to target Google’s mobile internet ambitious on these countries.
oneSearch, which went live in the U.S. in March, allows users to input a generic search term like “coffee” or “pizza” to obtain a list of nearby coffee shops or pizza restaurants and hyper-linked phone numbers.
“What consumers want from a mobile search is entirely different to what they want on the PC,” commented Geraldine Wilson, the head of Yahoo’s Connected Life division in Europe.
In addition to local search, the oneSearch tool also provides easy mobile access to local weather, news, images, and financial updates.
