Wireless chipmaker, Broadcom, has unveiled a Vista-compatible version of its Bluetooth for Windows solution, which features innovative new features like wireless headset control of PC music and VoIP software.

The latest edition of of Bluetooth for Windows, BTW Version 6.1, is designed to help PC manufacturers integrate a wide range of Bluetooth applications, such as wireless audio and entertainment programs, into their products.

BTW 6.1 comes equipped with advanced Bluetooth profiles for printing, digital imaging, file transfer, and file synchronization; as well as a dial-up networking wizard to simplify the task of connecting to the internet on a laptop, via a Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone.

“The wizard detects the network carrier, the correct phone settings, and automatically populates the information in the appropriate screens,” Broadcom revealed. “This provides mobile consumers with hassle-free connectivity in places without a wired or Wi-Fi connection.”

Demand for Bluetooth hardware and software has increased significantly in the past couple of years, as the near-range wireless technology is built-into more and more notebook computers.

“Bluetooth has already achieved widespread adoption in mobile phones, and the technology is making significant inroads into the notebook PC market,” commented IDC analyst, Celeste Crystal, in a recent statement. “In 2006, over 25.8% of notebook PCs featured Bluetooth technology.”
