More than 200 million people around the world now use DSL broadband technology to access the internet, according to recent figures compiled by Point Topic.

There has been a 29% increase in DSL usage over the past 12 months alone, researchers announced at the recent Broadband World Forum (Asia) in Beijing. China has emerged as the world’s biggest DSL market, with over 37 million residents using the technology at the end of the first quarter.

“DSL is clearly the preferred method of delivering an efficient broadband service, particularly in China, and with the growing popularity of technologies such as IPTV we expect DSL subscriptions to continue to rise,” commented Robin Merch, Chief Operating Officer of the DSL Forum.
