The European Commission has confirmed that new regulations limiting wireless roaming fees will take effect across the EU beginning on June 30.

From that date forward, mobile phone carriers will not be allowed to charge more than €0.49/minute in roaming fees for calls placed anywhere within the EU.

Europe’s Telecom Commissioner, Viviane Reding, says that regulators will continue monitoring the situation in the months to come, and has warned carriers that SMS and data roaming rates may also be capped on a continent-wide basis if they do not decline naturally within the next 18 months.
