Verizon Communications has signed up its one-millionth fiber-optic broadband customer, announced CEO, Ivan Seidenberg, at this week’s NXTcomm conference in Chicago.
Seidenberg also revealed that FiOS TV, the digital television component of Verizon’s fiber-optic roll-out, is fast-approaching half a million customers, after hitting 348,000 at the end of March. The service has been rapidly expanding for the past 20 months, and is now available to almost 3-million households in 11 U.S. states.
Verizon hopes to extend its fiber-optic broadband and television network to cover 9-million homes by the end of this year, and 18-million by late 2010.
