Mexican Telecom Mogul, Carlos Slim, Becomes World’s Richest Man

Carlos Slim, the founder and CEO of Latin America’s largest wireless carrier, America Movil, is now the world’s richest man, according to a Mexican financial journal quoted by Reuters.

Slim’s wealth recently exceeded that of Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates, due to a climb in America Movil’s share price, and now stands at US$67.8 billion.

In addition to his majority stake in America Movil, the 67-year-old Slim also holds a controlling interest in Mexico’s leading landline provider, Telmex, American consumer electronics chain, CompUSA, and over 200 other companies.
