Finland-based joint venture, Nokia Siemens Networks has won a two-year, €660 million ($900 million) mobile networking contract from India’s largest wireless operator, Bharti Airtel Ltd.

Nokia Siemens will help the carrier extend its wireless coverage by installing 1.8 million new network ports, and setting up a prepaid international calling card service that will help Bharti Airtel add approximately 4.5 million customers.

“Bharti Airtel is undertaking a massive expansion and integration exercise across its mobile and fixed (landline) networks to significantly augment its service delivery capacity,” said the Indian company’s president, Manoj Kohli, in a statement.

Nokia Siemens, a networking joint venture between Finland’s Nokia and Germany’s Siemens, is aggressively expanding its market share in India, and won a similar, $500 million contract from Mumbai-based Idea Cellular Ltd. in May.
