Failed VoIP provider, SunRocket, has announced a temporary reprieve for its subscribers, by reconnecting its service and giving users until August 5 to move their phone numbers to another carrier.

“We urge each and every customer that has not signed up with a new service provider to immediately do so now,” the sunken startup says on its website. “Do not delay as services are being discontinued and will be permanently shut down no later than August 5, 2007.”

SunRocket is working with Sherwood Partners LLC to liquidate its assets, and recommends that remaining customers port their accounts to either 8×8 Inc.’s Packet8 VoIP service, or TeleBend, a joint venture of USA Telephone and Unified Communications Corp. These companies have agreed to pay Sherwood Partners a small fee for each SunRocket account acquired.

Sherwood will use this money, along with other acquisition proceeds, to pay back SunRocket’s creditors to the greatest extent possible.

    1. Yeah, after getting a couple of these emails I also had to make a decision where to go now after SR

died. My main goal was to save my phone number that I had for 3 years. What’s funny is that from the

emails SR sends out, they make it sound like Packet8 and Teleblend are the only

choices. But from what I’ve found out after looking through the forums is that ViaTalk and JoiPhone are also highly capable of

quickly transferring the number. JoiPhone was the cheapest of them all,

but they didn’t cover my area code. So after weighing all the options I went with ViaTalk because of their 3 month

contract buyout for ex-SR customers and two phone lines for the price of one. I’ve placed a fax

      machine on a second line.

    2. To sign up with the most reliable VoIP company is the next big problem faced by the burnt SunRocket customers. Among the various VoIP companies, I feel Lingo could be better option for them. Backed by telecom giant Primus, they will not disappear from the market very easily. Moreover, they offer some flexible and unlimited-minute calling plans to make hassle free calls in Western European countries.

    3. Though SunRocket, in their email, directed its customers to Teleblend and Packet8, but they cannot be better options for them. Being an ex-customer of SunRocket, I searched vastly on the net to find the best. I don’t want to take a chance again. I think Lingo is better these days with their new plans. They have comparatively low international calling rates and have a wider coverage over the Western Europe. They have fine plans for home and business users.
