Tiscali Buys Pipex Communications’ Consumer Broadband Division

Italian-based internet service provider, Tiscali SPA, has agreed to acquire the consumer broadband and voice division of Britain’s Pipex Communications, in a deal worth approximately £210 million.

Tiscali will take control of a number of Pipex subsidiaries, including Switch2 Telecoms Ltd., Pipex Homecall Ltd., and Pipex Internet Ltd., as well as Pipex Residential and Pipex Residential Ireland Ltd. Pipex Group will retain control of its corporate broadband business.

Founded in 1991, Pipex is a leading provider of telecom and internet services in the UK market. It generated a profit of £13.9 million last year, on revenue of £231.7 million, and had 570,000 residential broadband customers, and 480,000 voice subscribers as of December 31.
