America’s second largest cell phone carrier, Verizon Wireless, announced yesterday that it had added a net total of 1.3 million customers in the second quarter, giving it a total subscriber base of 62.1 million.

The company added a total of 1.6 million new retail customers in the three months ending on June 30, but lost approximately 300,000 wholesale subscribers, primarily due to the expiry of a resale contract.

Verizon Wireless is a joint venture owned by U.S. telephone giant Verizon Communications, and the world’s largest wireless service provider, Vodafone Group. Verizon Communications plans to report its full second-quarter financial results on July 30.
