America’s largest telecom provider, AT&T Inc., has added $100 million to the $750 million already budgeted to expand its global communications network this year.
“We have come up with another $100 million,” said AT&T’s regional president for Asia Pacific, Gopi Gopinath, in an interview with Reuters yesterday.
The additional funding will be spent primarily Asia Pacific countries, which are currently AT&T’s fastest growing global markets. The telecom giant expects annual growth of 30 to 40 percent in the regions, for the next five years.
“Intuitively that seems like a reasonable expectation, which is great for me because I can get attention from headquarters whenever I need it,” Gopinath commented.
AT&T’s global communications investments are currently being concentrated in Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, as well as some developed markets in Europe.
