China’s mobile video market will nearly triple in the next year, according to Juniper Research, which predicts that the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 will be a major boost for the technology.
Juniper’s report predicts that subscriber totals will grow from 3.7 million in 2007 to 9.3 million in 2008, as mobile video revenues soar from $36 million to $98 million.
“The wireless value added sector has significant growth potential in the forthcoming 3G arena and with the imminent launch of 3G, the VAS sector will be fuelled by a number of factors such as the development of new services and applications,” commented the report’s author, Dr. Elisa Kuang.
Foreign companies face many hurdles in the Chinese market, however, says Kuang, as China presents a vastly different operating environment from North America and Europe.
