Building B Raises Funding for Next-Generation HDTV Service

Home entertainment startup, Building B, has raised $17.5 million in private funding to market a new internet-based video services that could ultimately rival the pay-TV offerings of cable, satellite, and telecom providers.

The company says that its HDTV programming platform will offer TV content from existing basic and premium cable networks alongside videos from internet content providers. This service will be delivered through a piece of hardware installed in each customer’s home.

Building B executives won’t say exactly what broadband technologies will be used to deliver programming, but did hint that the service may incorporate next-generation technologies like WiMAX and Broadband over Power Lines.

Initial investors in this venture include Morganthaler Ventures, Omni Capital, Index Ventures, and other private partners.
