Popular television content from around the world will soon be streamed to Tiscali’s high-speed internet customers in the UK, through a deal with Canadian Video On Demand broadcaster, JumpTV.

JumpTV’s video application will be added to the entertainment section of Tiscali’s UK portal, and will play a variety of TV shows from 70 countries around the world.

“At Tiscali, we understand how important video content is to our users, as the entertainment section is one of the most popular in our extensive portal,” commented the head of Tiscali UK’s online division, Alex Hole.

Toronto-based JumpTV says that 300 or so international channels will be available on a subscription basis, and will help Tiscali better serve Britian’s growing immigrant population.

“Satellite and traditional cable TV providers have proven for years that there is a strong appetite for international television in the UK, as the country is a hub for Asians, Middle Easterners, Africans and continental Europeans,” commented JumpTV president, Isaza Tuzman. “Couple these demographics with the UK’s very high broadband penetration rate and you have JumpTV’s second largest target market after North America.”
