19% of U.S. internet users view at least one online video on any given day, according to a recent study by the Pew Internet and American Life Project.

News reports, many of which are distributed via TV station websites, are the most popular form of internet video, and have gotten many Americans comfortable with the idea of watching video content online.

The rapid rise of YouTube, an internet video portal purchased by Google late last year, has also been a notable trend, especially among video viewers aged 18 to 29, half of whom report regularly using the site. Young adults in this age range are the most likely to send video links to friends and family and watch videos in groups.

The Pew study also determined that connection speed was a significant factor in online video viewing, with about a quarter of broadband subscribers viewing video on a typical day, versus just 9% of dial-up users.

Pew’s survey included a total of 1,492 American internet users aged 18 and older, and was conducted between February 15 and March 7.
