U.S. telephone and wireless carrier, Qwest Communications, has launched a new mobile handset meeting military standards for resisting shock, vibration, and dust.
The Sanyo SCP-7050 was initially released by Sprint Nextel earlier this year, and targeted towards construction workers, outdoor hobbyists, and others who spend time in rugged environments. Qwest announced on Wednesday that it would sell the phone for $89.99, after discounts.
The SCP-7050 features a rubber grip, Ready Link walkie-talkie service, and GPS and Bluetooth functionality. It is the first of several rugged cell phones, tested against military standards, to be made available to American wireless subscribers. Similar models are manufactured by Motorola and Casio.
