U.S. telecom giant, Verizon Communications, plans to challenge cable incumbent, Comcast, in the Oregon pay-TV market, after winning a video franchise in the city of Wilsonville, Ore.

Members of the Wilsonville City Council granted Verizon’s video franchise on August 20, in a unanimous vote.

Verizon already holds pay-TV covering much of Oregon’s largest city, Portland, as well as nearby Washington County. The company says it hopes to launch its FiOS television service in all of those communities by late this year or early next.
