Apple iPhone Outsold All Other Smartphones in July

The Apple iPhone’s U.S. launch might not have lived up to all the wild expectations of some armchair analysts, but sales of the device are still plugging along nicely, according to new data from iSuppli.
The research firm’s monthly online survey of over 2-million American shoppers revealed that the iPhone was a big hit in July, matching sales of LG’s popular Chocolate cell phone, and outselling all other smartphones – including all BlackBerrys, Palm Treos, and several advanced devices from Motorola, Nokia, and Samsung.
All in all, the iPhone accounted for 1.8% of all handsets sold to U.S. customers in July.
“This is a remarkable accomplishment for Apple, considering that July marked the first full month of sales for the iPhone,” iSuppli wrote in a statement. Researchers were impressed that the iPhone could land such strong numbers “in the face of numerous, well-entrenched competitors.”
