Wireless broadband provider, Clearwire Corp., and satallite communications company, ICO Global Communications, have announced a joint agreement to carry out mobile video trials in Raleigh, North Carolina and Las Vegas, Nevada, beginning in early 2008.

The companies will deliver “mobile triple play” services by combining ICO’s Mobile Interactice Media suite of communication and entertainment services with Clearwire’s WiMAX-based mobile broadband network.

“Mobile two-way video, advanced interactive navigation, plus emergency calling and messaging becomes an even more compelling value proposition when integrated with a wireless broadband network such as Clearwire’s,” commented Tim Bryan, the CEO of ICO.

Reston, Virginia-based ICO is currently developing a hybrid system of satellite and terrestrial communications facilities, which will be used to deliver a combination of voice, data, and video services. Clearwire and ICO have selected Alcatel-Lucent to supply network architecture for the trial system, which will be based on the Direct Video Broadcasting – Satellite to Handheld (DVB-SH) mobile video standard.
