Alcatel-Lucent and Samsung Electronics demonstrated DVB-SH-based live mobile TV last week on the forthcoming Samsung SGH-P930 handset.
The phone was equipped with Alcatel-Lucent’s Unlimited Mobile TV solution, an end-to-end system encompassing network infrastructure, application platforms, unicast/broadcast integration, and deployment, operation, and maintenance services. The demonstration of this technology was enabled by Streamezzo’s Rich Media engine, ported onto the Samsung handset and integrated with Alcatel-Lucent’s Service Delivery Platform.
“This demonstration of broadcast mobile TV based on DVB-SH on a Samsung handset is a major milestone for the delivery of the Alcatel-Lucent Unlimited Mobile TV solution worldwide,” commented the Chairman of Alcatel-Lucent’s mobile broadcasting division, Olivier Coste. “The integration of Streamezzo technology in our unified 3G/unicast and broadcast environment is opening the door to a truly personalized mobile TV experience for the mass market.”
Samsung’s SGH-P930 is a 3G slider handset set to be released in the first quarter of 2008.
