Transatlantic telecom equipment maker, Alcatel-Lucent, announced on Thursday that it had been chosen to deploy commercial WiMAX networks for Brasil Telecom, in the cities of Sao Paulo, Curitiba, and Porto Alegre.
Alcatel-Lucent plans to deploy its end-to-end 802.11e-2005 WiMAX solution, including base stations, backbone links, wireless access controllers, Ethernet links, IP aggregation equipment, and software platforms.
“With our complete and powerful WiMAX solution, Brasil Telecom’s network will benefit from the most advanced technologies in terms of radio frequency management,” said Alcatel-Lucent’s president of operations in Europe and South America, Olivier Picard. “Our solution will enable Brasil Telecom’s professional and residential subscribers to have fast, reliable connections to the Internet in fixed and nomadic environments in areas with little or no DSL coverage.”
The company will also offer design and planning for end-to-end network integration and positioning.
Financial terms of the agreement were not released.
