Cisco Systems has agreed to purchase WiMAX equipment maker, Navini Networks, in an all-cash deal worth $330 million.
Navini specializes in the integration of smart beam forming technologies with MIMO antennas, a combination which improves the performance and range of its WiMAX products, while lowering deployment and operational costs.
Navini’s products include base stations, antenna arrays, wireless modems, and management systems, which will be merged into Cisco’s existing portfolio of Wi-Fi and mesh wireless solutions. This deal marks the networking giant’s first major foray into the WiMAX market.
