Waterloo, Ontario-based Research In Motion has unveiled the BlackBerry Pearl 8130, a new version of the popular Pearl smartphone designed to work on CDMA wireless networks.
Like the GSM/EDGE-based BlackBerry Pearl 8100, the new Pearl will come with a pre-installed music and multimedia player, as well as its own web browser, instant messaging capability, and of course, RIM’s famous wireless email software.
New features on the 8130 include a built-in GPS satellite receiver for mapping and navigation, a 2.0-megapixel digital camera (versus the 8100’s 1.3-megapixel camera), and most importantly, support for EV-DO mobile broadband networks.
It will be offered in the United States by both Sprint Nextel and Verizon Wireless, with availability planned for sometime in November.
