Spain’s dominant telecom operator, Telefonica, is planning to extend its 10-Mbps ADSL service to residential broadband subscribers, according to one of the companies leading executives.

Previously only available to enterprise-level customers, 10-Mbps internet access will be available as a part of numerous double- and triple-play packages in the near future, said Antonio Viana-Baptista, the General Manager of Telefonica Spain.

Pilot tests of the enhanced service are being conducted in 1,000 households in Madrid and Barcelona.

Mr. Viana-Baptista also announced that Telefonica would be launching an improved version of its digital pay-TV service, Imagenio. The main addition will be a feature allowing viewers to go back and watch programs that aired up to seven days before.
