Verizon Wireless, introduced the latest member of its Christmas cell phone line-up on Friday, in the form of a slim, entertainment-oriented clamshell handset called the Samsung Gleam.
The Gleam is capable of downloading music and video files over Verizon’s V CAST multimedia network, allowing users to download their favourite songs over the airwaves, or access an existing personal collection on a microSD memory card.
This multimedia-ready handset is not officially considered to be a smartphone, but does boast numerous mobile computing features, including Verizon’s Mobile Web 2.0 wireless browser, and EV-DO mobile broadband capability. It also comes with the convenience of Bluetooth, as well as a 2-megapixel digital camera.
The Gleam device is now available throughout the U.S. at a cost of $150, after a $50 mail-in rebate, and with a two-year Verizon Wireless subscription.
Verizon is currently in the process of debuting its holiday product line-up, and unveiled several new high-end phones, including the LG Voyager, a music-ready smartphone designed to compete with the Apple iPhone, earlier last week.
