Apple Inc. is planning to introduce a faster, 3G-capable iPhone sometime next year according to Randall Stephenson, the CEO of U.S. iPhone carrier, AT&T.

“You’ll have it next year,” Stephenson said when asked about the 3G iPhone at a meeting in Santa Clara, California this week. He went on to say that he didn’t know how much the 3G model would cost, noting that Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, “will dictate what the price of the phone is.”

Jobs said in September that Apple could have brought a 3G iPhone to market this summer, but opted not to because the faster chips would have drastically reduced the handset’s eight-hour battery life.

“We’ve got to see the battery lives for 3G get back up into the five-plus-hour range,” Jobs explained two months ago. “Hopefully we’ll see that late next year.”

Apple is hoping to sell 10 million iPhone devices worldwide next year, which wold give it around 1% of the global handset market.
