Worldwide revenue from mobile gaming was down 9% in the second quarter of this year, according to recent analysis by iSuppli.

Analyst, David Carnevale, said that the quarterly decline was caused by weak subscriptions for mobile games, and comes as “a significant blow” to the category, which had shown significant growth and promise in previous quarters. He says that it’s too early to tell whether the second-quarter decline was a seasonal dip, or if it would lead to an ongoing trend of slackening demand.

“While the third quarter performance and the fourth quarter outlook appear optimistic, the pace of growth is slowing, causing great concern to content providers,” Carnevale explained in his research report.

Nevertheless, iSuppli is sticking to its prior predictions that mobile gaming revenue would nearly triple from $2.3 billion in 2006 to $6.6 billion in 2011.
