Qualcomm has just won a round in its ongoing patent war with Nokia, as the U.S. International Trade Commission dismissed the handset maker’s lawsuit to have Qualcomm chips banned from the United States.

Nokia claimed that Qualcomm had infringed its patents on technology to make mobile phones smaller and more efficient, and asked that the ITC ban importation of the offending products.

The ITC said that it had dropped the suit due to pending arbitration in other courts, and was now finished with the case.

“Nokia is disappointed in the ruling but the decision is based on the pending arbitration and not the merits of the case,” commented Laurie Armstrong, a spokeswoman for Nokia.

There are currently more than a dozen lawsuits pending between Nokia and Qualcomm, in numerous courts on three different continents.
