Research In Motion, maker of the popular BlackBerry device, is suing Korean handset manufacturer, LG Electronics, for trademark violation.

RIM claims that three variations of LG’s popular Chocolate music phone – the Strawberry, Black Cherry, and Black Label – infringe on the world-famous BlackBerry brand name.

“RIM’s BlackBerry wireless handheld devices and the goodwill associated with its BlackBerry marks are invaluable to RIM’s continued success,” the Canadian company said in a court filing. “The aforesaid actions of LG have caused, and, unless enjoined, will continue to cause monetary damage and irreparable injury to RIM and the BlackBerry marks for which there is no adequate remedy at law.”

This brings back memories of another lawsuit late last year, where RIM accused Samsung’s BlackJack device of infringing on its trademark. That suit was eventually settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.
