America’s second largest cell phone carrier, Verizon Wireless, is launching two new multimedia phones from LG Electronics today, in hopes of competing with the Apple iPhone this holiday shopping season.
The Voyager and Venus devices each feature a built-in music player, wireless web browser, external touchscreen display, and up to 8GB of memory to store photos, music, and multimedia files. The Voyager handset features the added benefit of a QWERTY keyboard, and 3G mobile broadband access, a clear attempt to trump the iPhone among wireless email and internet users.
“These phones offer customers some of the most exciting technology available today,” commented Verizon vice president and Chief Marketing Officer, Mike Lanman, in a statement. “The combination of touch and tactile keypads that are features on both devices give customers a winning combination that is rare in the market today.”
The Voyager and Venus devices go on sale at Verizon Wireless retail outlets today, at a price of $300 and $200, respectively.
