AT&T Inc. has appointed one of its American executives, Mark Shine, as its new president of wireless communications services in India.
Shine has served as the vice president of AT&T’s Global Sales Operations division, and up until now has been based in Bedminster, New Jersey. His latest appointment is retroactive to October 1, 2007, and he is expected to relocate to New Delhi before January 1, 2008.
“India is a strategic market for our global plans, and AT&T has the commitment to play an important role in the remarkable development taking place,” Shine said in a statement. “AT&T has the experience and capability to build state-of-the-art mobile infrastructure and provide Indian customers with the very latest in mobile voice and data communication services to meet surging demand in the country.”
AT&T became the first global telecom provider to enter the Indian market when its Global Network Services India division won national and international telephone licenses in the country in October 2006.
