Wireless broadband startup, Clearwire Corp., now offers WiMAX service in 50 distinct markets worldwide, after bringing its high-speed wireless internet service to Rochester, New York, earlier this week.

Clearwire will compete with Verizon Communications and Time Warner Cable in the Rochester broadband market, but will not launch its VoIP internet telephony service in the city at this time.

Founded by wireless entrepreneur, Criag McCaw, Kirkland, Washington-based Clearwire offers high-speed internet access in dozens of U.S. markets, as well as parts of Europe and Mexico, using a non-standardized version of WiMAX technology.
