Rogers Wireless has become the first nationwide wireless carrier in Canada to offer a Voicemail-to-Text messaging service, allowing subscribers to convert their voicemail messages into text format and view them on a BlackBerry, PDA, or SMS-enabled cell phone.

Rogers Voicemail-to-Text is available beginning this month in BC, Ontario, Quebec, and the Atlantic province, and will be extended to Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba early next year. A similar service was launched by Saskatchewan’s regional carrier, Sasktel, in September.

The Rogers service costs a total of $23 per month ($8 for regular voicemail and $15 for an unlimited number of voicemail-to-text conversions). Based on SpinVox technology it is capable of converting messages up to three minutes in length in English, French, Spanish, or German.

In addition to reading a text transcript of their voicemail messages, Voicemail-to-Text users will be able to respond by text or telephone at the touch of a button, forward converted messages to other subscribers, or quickly dial into their voicemail boxes and listen to a message the traditional way.
