Consumption of internet video content among U.S. adults increased rapidly this year, according to a recent report by Horowitz Associates.

61% of high-speed internet subscribers now watch or download online video content at least once a week, while 86% do so at least once a month, the Horowitz study indicated. This compares to 45% and 71% in late 2006.

The increasing trend towards internet video has carried over to mobile devices in the past year. 27% of American broadband subscribers now own a video-enabled cell phone, PDA, or multimedia device, and 35% of these users watch video on their devices at least once a week. 62%, meanwhile, view mobile videos at least monthly.

This means that 18% of high-speed internet customers now watch internet video on a mobile device at least once a month, up from just 8% at this time last year.

The most popular types of internet video content appear to be news and user-generated content, followed by movie trailers, music videos, and previews of TV shows. For general entertainment, however, traditional television is by far the more popular platform.
