Verizon Communications has made good on its promise to deliver Video On Demand content in high-definition format by year’s end, announcing availability of HD VOD in several markets last week.
HD VOD is now available to FiOS television subscribers in Richmond and Virginia Beach, Virginia; Tampa, Florida; Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It will be extended to other FiOS markets, including Washington D.C., Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, in early 2008.
Verizon’s HD menu is limited to 75 VOD titles for the time being, but is expected to grow to around 1,000 choices by the end of next year.
“Whether they’re buying their first HDTV or their fourth this holiday season, HD customers always want more HD programming,” said Verizon’s vice president of video solutions, Shawn Strickland, in a statement.
