American motion picture giant, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., has agreed to make its high-definition television channel, MGM HD, available on Verizon’s FiOS TV service.

The channel, which draws on MGM’s extensive library of feature films, is expected to roll out across the FiOS TV system later this year, as part of Verizon’s aggressive plan to offer 150 HD channels by the end of 2008.

“The response to the MGM HD channel, even in today’s crowded and challenging marketplace, has been very encouraging, especially as consumers validate our belief that HDTV owners value movies along with sports as HD’s greatest viewing proposition,” commented Douglas A. Lee, the executive vice president of MGM Worldwide Digital Media, in a statement announcing the FiOS deal. “We are one of the only services available 24/7 in full 1080i HD.”
